PBVA Winter League 2007 / 2008 Another winter season has drawn to a close, and we can congratulate Wessex Volleyball Club for a clean sweep in winning all four divisions. With the ongong problems of Poole Sports Centre, it has not been the greatest of seasons (many of us missing the post match debriefing sessions in the bar). However, the volleyball was good and we can only hope that the sports hall issue is sorted for next season. Whilst it is always a bit sad to see the end of a Winter League season, there is the good news in that it must be getting closer to summer... Beach Volleyball is soon to start - hoorah! Once again we must thank the organisers of the Winter League and those involved... always a lot of hard work (and this year with all the sports hall problems, even harder then normal), so on behalf of all of the players.. thanks very much! Poole Sports Centre - what's happening? No resolution to the problems as yet and it appears that both our Local MP and Council officials are as helpful as a chocolate teapot! The council are of course pleading that they don' have the money to support the sports hall. One has to wonder where all the extra domestic rates income from all the properties built has gone (and let's face it, there have been a lot of properties built lately)... perhaps they just prefer to spend our money on feasibility studies into the building of large and very pointless triangular structures on public open spaces! Or, dumping large amounts of sharp shells and stones on our once beautiful golden beaches! If you have any connections to these people, please give them a gentle 'clip around the ear' and remind them that this is not only the best sports hall in the area... but one that produces some of the finest volleyball players in the country! (perhaps Mr. Syms MP and our council officials would prefer us to either stay at home and get obese watching television, or join an expensive private fitness club where we can stay fit on a treadmill - whilst also watching television).
